Relief International (RI) has worked to provide humanitarian relief in Afghanistan since 2001. RI believes that education is the key to people making better lives for themselves and their families. We are achieving our goal of rebuilding livelihoods with our Afghan Libraries Program. We are providing Afghans with a safe place and the educational materials to learn new skills and deepen their knowledge while developing an awareness of human rights – especially for women and children.

To date Relief International’s Afghan Libraries Program has:

• Established 350 fully-furnished libraries throughout Afghanistan
• Trained hundreds of schoolteachers in library management and computer literacy
• Installed Internet Learning Centers, connecting Afghan men, women and children to the world around them
• Distributed over 100,000 books
• Reached over 600,000 children with thousands more Afghans using the libraries to learn to read, to build a career – to create a better tomorrow
